When did you begin working in Early Childhood Education – was there a moment(s) that made you realize you wanted to work in this field? Have there been other roles in the field that you have worked in?
I have always loved being with young children. I didn’t know how children would factor in my life’s work, but I could not see myself doing anything that did not involve them. Once I arrived at college I got a job at a campus program and I was hooked!
What are your educational philosophies?
I am a proponent of learning through play, both inside and out. We, as the adults provide the stage for the learning to happen and we need to give the children the time and space to learn it. Children need to feel challenged to learning new ideas, skills and information. Without the challenge they will not feel the joy of success and we would not get to see their face shine with the pride they feel when they master a skill. Our mission should be to show the children where to look, not what to find.
